Liv Larsen is a Norwegian-American artist based in Bozeman, Montana. Her work explores the intimate relationship between nature, imagination, and the emotional landscapes of human experience. Raised among the forests and wooded coastlines of Massachusetts’ North Shore, Liv developed an early fascination with the natural world. The forest became a place of discovery and wonder, nurturing the whimsical imagination that continues to inform her artistic vision.

Formally trained at SACI College of Art and Design in Florence, Italy, Liv began her professional career in photography, specializing in architectural imagery for real estate publications. Her personal photographic work, however, gravitated toward nature, where she explored the interplay of light, shadow, stillness, and movement.

Through carefully considered compositions, Liv seeks to capture more than the visible subject, creating atmospheric images that evoke memory, emotion, and the elusive qualities of dreams. Today, painting has become the central expression of her artistic practice. Drawing upon her trained photographic eye, Liv approaches the canvas with an intuitive understanding of composition, tonal values, and light. Her work bridges the precision of classical realism and the expressive freedom of painterly brushwork, allowing faithful observation and artistic imagination to find their own harmonious balance. Her subjects range from intimate portraits and wildlife to landscapes and organic abstractions, each reflecting her desire to discover the deeper character and spirit of what she portrays.

Rooted in her Norwegian ancestry and inspired by the mountains and wilderness of Montana, Liv’s work embraces warm, earthy palettes, natural textures, and a sense of quiet intimacy. The rugged beauty of her Montanan surroundings resonates with the ancestral landscapes of Norway, creating a visual language that bridges heritage, memory, and place.
