Letter From the Editor: Open To Spring
Angie Ripple | Tuesday Apr. 1st, 2025
For the past 18 years, we have been bringing you the stories of Bozeman’s past and present on a monthly basis. Each April we aim to shine a light on local sustainability and share cautionary tales as well as actionable steps you can take to ensure that our place on the planet remains liveable. Past April articles, which are searchable on bozemanmagazine.com, include a detailed history of Bozeman’s water supply, homeowners’ tips for sustainable living, simple eco-friendly solutions for your home, and recycling events in our area.
Having lived in Bozeman for nearly three decades, I have come to know April as an in-between month. We’ve entered the official season of spring, yet our spring doesn’t actually arrive until late April, if we’re lucky. The ground is still frozen. We will get hints of warmth suddenly followed by a freeze, making planting and growing outdoors a real challenge. Mud is the main thing growing in Bozeman in April—mud and anxiety, as we get impatient for green grass and warmer temps. As always, I am speaking for myself, as I know plenty of folks who will be hiking, biking, climbing, skiing and more while I plan my garden and enjoy a smattering of local events.
The name “April” is believed to have originated from the Latin word “aperire,” meaning “to open,” which may refer to the opening or blossoming of flowers and trees as spring begins. Maybe this in-between month will give you the time to consider contributing something to Bozeman Magazine this year. Each month we feature the work of Montana artists on our cover, and the words of creative individuals who contribute informative articles on topics they care deeply about. We also offer a smattering of marketing opportunities for local businesses to grow and engage with our community. April is a great month for strategic planning for Q2 and beyond.
Each issue of Bozeman Magazine presents a diverse array of content including in-depth articles on local history, curated top ten lists, recommendations for seasonal activities, and insights into the local arts and culture scene, providing readers with a rich tapestry of Bozeman’s vibrant community life. Thank you for picking up this issue; it is guaranteed to introduce you to something new, and open you to new possibilities.
