After two sold-out concerts in 2021, the tradition continues with the Bozeman Symphony’s second annual Holiday Spectacular on December 10th and 11th. In response to last year’s demand, there will be three performances, giving everyone a chance to join in the fun and ring in the holidays. Under the direction of Music Director Norman Huynh, this concert includes many of your favorite festive classics like Sleigh Ride, and the Christmas Carol Sing-Along. The performance features the Bozeman Symphonic Choir and guest tenor, Tamar Green (currently appearing as George Washington in the Broadway company of Hamilton). Bring the whole family to this must-attend holiday concert celebrating the spirit and joy of the season! 

No matter your age or familiarity with attending the symphony, this program has something for everyone. Audience members will be treated to a full range of holiday music, from traditional carols and classics such as Handel’s “Hallelujah” from The Messiah to music from movies that are beloved this time of year, like Elf and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. You will experience moments of sacred peace, and moments of fun and excitement.

“Holiday Spectacular enters its second year of building a new tradition, and by popular demand, we have added a third performance,” says Music Director Norman Huynh. “Each year, we aim to make this concert more ‘spectacular’ with gorgeous decorations, dazzling lighting and, of course, music that will uplift your spirit to ring in the holiday season.”

This concert features the many spirited voices of the Bozeman Symphonic Choir. Under the direction of Interim Symphonic Choir Director, Ryan Tani, over 70 choir members will take the stage to sing a variety of pieces throughout the program. Along with the wonderful choir, the featured soloist for this performance is dazzling Broadway singer, Tamar Greene. There is something special about singing during the holidays, which is why these voices truly bring the holiday spirit to life.

Performances will be held in person on Saturday, December 10th at 2:30 and 7:30 pm, and Sunday, December 11th at 2:30pm at the Willson Auditorium (404 West Main Street) in downtown Bozeman. Bozeman Symphony Music Director Norman Huynh has been hailed for the exuberance with which he leads orchestras and his ability to attract new audiences to the orchestra. Huynh attained international prominence in the first years of his career, most recently through an invitation to the Bruno Walter Young Conductor Preview, a selective showcase hosted by the League of American Orchestras. He was also selected as one of twenty-four finalists from over 600 applicants for the 2021 Malko Conducting Competition.

As a music director, Huynh’s sharp focus on winning over new audiences reflects his own entry point to classical music—as a 12-year old “band geek” trombonist in Alabama. Now the first in his family to pursue orchestral music as a career, the euphonium player turned maestro continues to find ways to create these same entry points for others, whether through outreach initiatives or bold concert programming.

Conductor Ryan Tani recently completed his two-year tenure as the Orchestral Conducting Fellow for the Yale Philharmonia under Music Director Peter Oundjian, where he was the 2021 recipient of the Dean's Prize for artistic excellence in his graduating class. Committed to meaningful community music-making, Ryan has begun his tenure as Interim Conductor of the Bozeman Symphonic Choir. He frequently serves as Cover Conductor for the Colorado and Bozeman Symphonies and also serves on the faculty at the Montana State University School of Music. Highlights of the 2022-2023 Season include appearances with the Bozeman Symphony, Second String Orchestra, Montana State University Symphony, and the Colorado Symphony.

Tamar Greene is the current George Washington in the Broadway company of Hamilton. Prior to joining the Broadway company, Tamar played the role of George Washington in the Chicago company of Hamilton for a year-and-a-half through its closing. From 2017 to 2018, he toured with the First National Tour and North American premiere of Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s spellbinding sequel to Phantom of the Opera. He has also performed as Crab Man in Porgy and Bess at Spoleto Festival USA. Tamar played the Quartet Leader in the inaugural cast of After Midnight on the Norwegian Escape. He played the role of Charlie in the NY Philharmonic Orchestra’s production of Show Boat at Lincoln Center, which was broadcast on PBS. He performed the role of Fisherman in the Broadway First National Tour of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. Just this year, Tamar has filmed a Christmas commercial on WEtv, recorded a new promo song for Netflix Jr Jams, and released a new single, Soaring, now available on all streaming platforms.
