ChickenJam West and Mellow Mood Bozeman want to make sure that you don’t miss Bozeman’s best Four-Twenty celebration with MOTH & Yak Attack, Friday, April 20 at The Filling Station. Doors will open at 9pm with music beginning at 10pm. This is a 21+ show. Tickets are available at Cactus Records & Gifts and online. They are $10 adv/ $12 door.
Yak Attack is a live electronica power trio from Portland, Oregon. Founded in 2013, the band has experienced steady growth over the past few years and has been building buzz by touring frequently throughout the Pacific Northwest, California, and the Mountain West. The group’s music is best described as “organic electronica,” using skillful playing, live loops, and tightly constructed songs combined with raw improvisation to build high-energy and uplifting dance music from scratch, where every note is played and recorded live. The band draws on influences from a wide spectrum of electronica, such as house, drum and bass, and breakbeat, along with elements of jam, funk, and jazz. The result is a live show that is musically sophisticated but widely accessible, with a diverse and engaged fan base that travels to out of town shows and continually returns to see what the band will do in its next live show.
Yak Attack has been selling out local and regional shows and is continuing to build their presence in regional markets, along with developing a reputation as “the region’s go to late night,” in the summer festival and after-party circuit. Some note-worthy festivals they have played include Joshua Tree Music Festival, Northwest String Summit, and Idaho’s own Treefort Music Fest and Sawtooth Valley Gathering. They have shared the stage with many established or up and coming acts such as TAUK, Turkuaz, The Magic Beans, Break Science, The Funk Hunters, and Fruition. Don’t miss out on this dance party!
The following night, Saturday April 21 at the Filling Station is Kuinka, Hawthorne Roots & Rainbow Girls. The doors open at 7 and music starts at 8pm. This is a 21+ show. Tickets available at Cactus Records & Gifts and online: https://cactusrecords.net/events/kuinka-hawthorne-roots-rainbow-girls/
Kuinka is described by NPR Music as joyous folk pop, Kuinka “laces modern folk and Americana with an electronic jolt, waltzing along the grooved edges of dream-pop, synth-pop, and Brooklyn’s mid-aughts guitar-rock revival” (Vanyaland). Their genre-defying music features several different lead singers, four-part harmony, and eclectic instrumentation including cello, banjo, synthesizers, ukulele and electronic percussion. For all of their sonic experimentation, the Seattle quartet’s songs and live shows are linked by an infectious energy that remains present in everything they do. Their new EP Stay Up Late is available now on Spotify, iTunes, and at www.kuinkatheband.com.
The Hawthorne Roots are a 4-time award winning, sister led band from Bozeman, Montana. The group brings a soulful and energetic performance to the stage, every lyric sung with passion and authenticity. Their original material explores different emotions and pushes the boundaries of Americana music. Their uniquely branded “Revved Up Soul” genre has gained momentum and admiration within the northwest community and beyond.
Rainbow Girls is a collaborative of songwriters, multi-instrumentalists, vocalists, and California natives who spent their first 5 years touring Europe and the US as a rock n’ roll band. Since 2016 they’ve returned to their folkier roots by embarking on a House Concert Tour Across America. The current trio version of the band (Erin Chapin, Caitlin Gowdey, & Vanessa May) highlights their rich harmonies, ageless songwriting, and soulful, bluesy sound at its rawest form.
