Hello, to whomever is reading this. Since we all have to have names, my name is Jason Thomas. I first opened my eyes to this beautiful planet 24 years ago in Grand Rapids, Michigan, also known as the mitten state. There I grew, like the waves that crash on Lake Michigan and there I matured, like the sand dunes that line its shores. Michigan blessed me with the love for adventure, the respect for my fellow neighbor, and the drive to become the best person I can be.
I moved to Montana in 2008 to attend Montana State University. I had never been to Bozeman nor ever visited the University until the three days prior to the beginning of classes. I went through most of my college career not having the slightest idea of “who I wanted to be” or “what I was going to do with my life”. These questions bother me to a certain degree because isn’t life about living? To me living doesn’t have to be about how much money I’ll be making after I graduate college or what I can tell my family and peers when they ask me what I’m doing with my life.
Things that are real to me are the people in my life, nature, happiness, and the fact that we are all part of the same little blue drop floating inside a vacuum of complete unknown, infinity and mystery. From the day I was born to today the Earth has not stopped spinning and life has not stopped living. In my eyes the only way to stop it all is through a photograph. A photograph can capture the emotion, the beauty, the ugly and most of all the truth of a single moment in time. Photographs are memories that can be viewed and felt by all who wish to look. Taking photographs for Bozeman magazine has been great because I can share those memories with the community I love.
Jason Thomas earned a Bachelors in Biological Science from Montana State University, he is currently providing Bozeman magazine with many great photos for each issue as a photo intern.
