Local Young Professionals Service Group Raises Money to Support Sister Club in Nicaragua
Thursday Dec. 13th, 2012
The Bozeman Rotaract Club, with support from Bozeman Sunrise Rotary, are proud to announce their donation of $1,000 to their sister Rotaract Club in Managua-Tiscapa, Nicaragua. The local Rotaract Club is a group of young professionals who volunteer and fundraise for a local and international service project each year. After discussing the needs of the Managua Rotaract Club, the Bozeman club decided to support the group in their effort to provide recreational activities to at risk youth in their community through the repair of a sports field. The field was used as a practice arena for various youth sports teams and organizations.
In Nicaragua, it is estimated that children aged 0-18 make up 53% of their entire population. With a large child and teen population at risk, the Rotaract Club of Managua-Tiscapa wanted to make sure that they had an outlet for healthy recreation. Some of the children who will use the field are facing poverty, selling goods on the streets of Managua. Others are part of a project for children of sex workers. And others are children who are at risk or have witnessed sexual abuse or domestic violence. The field will benefit a total of 490 at-risk young people in the Managua community. The field is now in serious disrepair; many of the children who currently use it barefoot have cuts on their feet because of the poor pavement.
The Bozeman Rotaract Club is proud to support the efforts of their peers in Nicaragua. The group enjoys making connections with young people around the world through the spirit of service. They are happy to show the Bozeman community, and the international community, that young people are active and caring volunteers.
The Bozeman Rotaract Club is a networking, social, and service organization for young professionals ages 18-31. The group is supported by the Bozeman Sunrise Rotary. The Bozeman Club is new and growing and actively seeking new members to join the group. Individuals who are interested in giving back to their community and meeting other like minded young people should check out the website and upcoming events at www.bozemanrotaract.org. The group meets once a month for socials and speakers and provide group service opportunities on a regular basis.
