Entrepreneurship: Follow Your Passion
Monday Oct. 31st, 2011
Entrepreneurship is about finding an idea or concept you are passionate about and acting on it to make the dream a reality. Freedom, flexibility, and doing what you enjoy are desires people seek, yet might not have with their current position. Everyday I meet others who are not happy with their job for many of these reasons. They feel as if they are stuck in a rut but don’t know how to turn their life around. Starting your own business just might be the answer.
For me, I’ve never been great at working for other people, and the passion to build someone else’s company truly didn’t make me want to get up in the morning. I’d go to the office everyday and work, but after 5:00 my brain did not think about that job one bit until the next morning. During work I always wondered what it would be like if I did start a business and what I was missing out on. I often thought about how I could improve my life by owning a business that I believed in and was passionate about growing.
I did make the leap back into owning my own business a while back. Before the leap I created a plan and mapped out how I would go about building my business. I felt free, happy, and like I had the ability to control my destiny. I no longer had a steady paycheck or job security, but I was prepared to work hard and figure out a way to make things successful.
As an entrepreneur you will work long hours and have many ups and downs. There will be times that you question yourself and ask, “What was I thinking when I decided to open up my own company?” However, if you believe in yourself, set goals, and are passionate about your business you will be successful and overcome many obstacles that get in your way.
Freedom and flexibility are important to everyone. The ability to create your own schedule and to control your day are a few of the many benefits of owning your business. You will most definitely work more hours than you would with a normal day job, but your work schedule is in your hands. You are free to take an extra long lunch, a Friday morning off to get in a round of golf, or a vacation at last minutes notice. Although you will also find yourself working six or seven days a week, getting up earlier, and getting to bed later to finish up projects or do your bookwork. Your success truly depends upon your motivation, drive, and perseverance.
You have to be passionate about your idea or business if you want to succeed. Many more businesses fail than actually succeed because the owner/owners are not truly passionate about their product or service. People might have dollar signs stuck in their minds when they brainstorm business ideas. Dollar signs are good, but if you are not passionate you will end up being another statistic in the failed business column in a college textbook.
Building your own business will build your confidence and allow you to try new things outside your normal comfort zone. You will learn much more about how businesses work then you ever will by working for someone else. Your income potential is only limited by yourself and what you want to put into your business in order to make it a success.
What are you waiting for? Go act on the idea you have been dreaming about and make it a success! FOLLOW YOUR PASSION….
