The Anaconda Copper Company, led by Marcus Daly, was the largest mining interest in Butte. Mining forever changed the face of Montana, but along the way, the Missouri Headwaters near Three Forks almost became the site of the great smelter that ultimately defined the town of Anaconda. Historian Brenda Wahler will describe how the complex influence of Montana’s best-known copper king tapped resources across Montana, including in Gallatin County. Brenda’s new book, Marcus Daly’s Montana Empires, will be available for purchase and a book signing will follow the presentation.
