Dear Bozeman Children’s Theatre Community,

We want to share an important update regarding our upcoming production of Heathers.

In light of the recent loss experienced within our school community, we recognize that this is a tender and emotional time for many. Out of care and respect for our students and families, the performances will now be closed to the general public and attended by invited friends, family, cast, crew, and staff.

Our decision to proceed with the production was made only after thoughtful consideration and consultation with our cast, crew, and their families. Throughout this process, student wellbeing has remained our central priority.

From the beginning of rehearsals, well before recent events, this production was intentionally scaffolded with mental health awareness and support. Measures have included:

- Ongoing mental health conversations integrated into the rehearsal process
- Regular student check-ins
- The presence of a volunteer licensed mental health professional at all rehearsals
- Clear avenues for students to express concerns or step back
- Thoughtful adjustments to the material in response to community context

Following last week’s tragedy, we expanded these supports and provided students with structured opportunities to reflect and communicate privately about their comfort in continuing. Student agency, emotional safety, and flexibility have guided our path forward.

This performance now carries an added meaning: honoring the effort, courage, and vulnerability of the young people who committed themselves to a project grounded in themes of mental health, connection, and peer support.

We understand that members of our community may have questions or concerns. We welcome respectful conversation and invite you to reach out at any time.
