Baroque Music by Candlelight

Baroque Music Montana presents “with concord of sweet sounds…” featuring two viola da gambas - the instrument which reigned supreme during 16th and 17th centuries for its plangent sound, harmonic richness, and vast range.
This concert highlights the mellow and melancholy character of this elegant period instruments, with enough virtuosity to satisfy the eager listener. With concerts from Red Lodge to Missoula, the performers will also appear on “Live from Studio B” on Montana Public Radio, lead a masterclass with students at the University of Missoula, and perform an outreach program for seniors Bozeman.
Repertoire includes works by Josquin, Buxtehude, and Marais. Musicians include violist da gamba, cellist, composer, and musicologist Eric Tinkerhess, who is a faculty member at Pepperdine University and who holds degrees from Oberlin, the Paris Conservatory, and Sorbonne. Described as “mesmerizing” (Seen and Heard International), Matt Zucker appears internationally as a collaborator and soloist specializing in historical cellos and viols with groups across Europe and the U.S. His 2023 performances as viola da gamba soloist in J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the New York Philharmonic were lauded as “stellar” and “a delight” (Financial Times), and he holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the Juilliard School. Tinkerhess and Zucker are joined by stalwart BaMM musicians Carrie Krause, violin, and John Lenti, lute.
