Chronic Wasting Disease Sampling Workshop
This workshop will include sampling demonstrations on the hour, giving public hunters a chance to observe and learn how to collect samples to test their harvested animal for CWD. Participants are welcome to bring the unfrozen head from their harvested deer, elk or moose with a few inches of neck attached to get help with sampling. They are also encouraged to bring whatever sampling tools they plan to have in the field, but equipment will be provided during the workshop for anyone who needs it.
Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to RSVP via email to jasmine.allinson@mt.gov, but walk-in guests are welcome.
Hunters play an essential role in helping FWP monitor and manage CWD, a fatal neurological disease affecting deer, elk and moose. Hunters can help by submitting samples from their harvested animals for testing, which helps gather current information on the prevalence and distribution of the disease.
