Baroque Music Montana presents “Fabulous Fanny: A Concert Journey of the Mendelssohn’s Berlin”
Baroque Music Montana (BaMM) presents a string quartet program on gut strings and historic instruments. “Fabulous Fanny: A Concert Journey of the Mendlessohn’s Berlin” traces the world of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, the sister of the famous composer Felix Mendelssohn. A brilliant musician, Ms. Hensel’s gifts were not allowed to flourish due to her societal position, but her music is given due spotlight through this program built around her remarkable String Quartet. Other repertoire includes pieces Fanny may have heard, including Haydn’s “Kaiser” quartet at her aunt’s concert salon, tunes from “Struensee” by Meyerbeer at the Berlin opera house, and Graun’s fugue and choral in the cathedral, and Beethoven’s “La Cavatina,” perhaps his most personal work written in “the tears of melancholy.”
Musicians are specialized in historic style with degrees from the world’s preeminent conservatories. London based violinist Davina Clarke, NYC and Bismarck based violist Maureen Murchie, and Toronto and Boston based cellist Michael Unterman join Bozeman Symphony concertmaster and BaMM director, violinist Carrie Krause.
