Rooted in Place: Montana Heritage Reception
This exhibition highlights the work of 9 students enrolled in GDSN 377; Design for Society within the Graphic Design program at Montana State University. Displayed in the exhibition are large format informative posters that highlight a design approach reflective of anthropologic and ethnographic practices—contributing to the dialogue of what design is and how studnets interact with design in the current technological era. Three cultural heritage themes were the drivers for research endeavors, including tangible, intangible, and natural cultural heritage examples. As a result, the project required students to study places and people, which led to multiple hands-on research practices like ethnographic observations, interviews, and research from special collections. The final visual result—this beautiful culmination and display of research—presents 9 unique viewpoints relative to each student’s cultural heritage site. The exhibition is on display at Echo Arts Exhibitions from November 25–December 2, with a public reception on December 2 from 5:30–7:00pm.
