STEM Summer Institute

Montana State University will host the fifth annual STEM Summer Institute, a professional development conference for K-12 teachers of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, on July 31-Aug. 2. The conference is co-hosted by the MSU Science Math Resource Center and School Services of Montana.

Breakout sessions designed to excite, engage and explore STEM education include Experiential Learning of Avalanches, Blackfeet Cultural Science and Mathematical Modeling. Keynote speaker Wendi Laurence, an educator from Park City, Utah, will share her knowledge and experience with creating innovative learning opportunities. Keynote speaker Amanda Jansen of the University of Delaware will share a mathematical perspective of integrating rough drafts and revisions into teaching and learning.

The conference will include networking opportunities, exhibitors, raffle prizes, an Indigenous welcome reception at American Indian Hall and tours of MSU labs. Participants can earn Office of Public Instruction renewal units or graduate school credit from MSU.

Educators and administrators from Montana and other states are encouraged to attend, as are informal and homeschool educators, university students and professionals from STEM education organizations.

The conference is $225 for all three days and includes several meals. Room blocks are available at local hotels and additional housing options are available on the MSU campus.
