Hunter Education
The classroom course will be at Belgrade Middle School on Feb. 24 and 25. The field day portion of the class will be at Logan Gun Range on Feb. 26.
Preregistration is required. Students can sign up for the class online by visiting https://register-ed.com/events/view/193971.
Students must be at least 10 years old to take the class. Priority will be given to students who reside in Belgrade. Hunter Education classes in other communities, including Bozeman, are being scheduled for the coming months.
Hunter and Bowhunter Education classes are taught by skilled volunteer instructors and offer hands-on learning experiences, mentoring opportunities and the ability for students to ask questions of experienced hunters. Students learn how to handle firearms and archery equipment safely, basic survival skills, hunting ethics, wildlife management, game identification, landowner-hunter relations, and Montana hunting laws and regulations. All in-person classes are free for students.
Montana law requires that anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, complete a Hunter Education class or qualify as a youth apprentice hunter before purchasing a Montana hunting license. All first-time bowhunters must complete a Bowhunter Education course or show proof of a prior year’s archery license from another state or province.
Other Hunter and Bowhunter Education classes are being scheduled throughout the state. To see what classes are happening near you or to sign up for a class, visit fwp.mt.gov/hunt/education. The web page will be updated as more classes are scheduled.
