Montana Association for the Blind (MAB) Bozeman Chapter Book & Craft Club

The Montana Association for the Blind (Bozeman Chapter) welcomes sighted, visually impaired, and blind adults to a monthly Book & Craft Club. Everyone is welcome!

Scheduled for the fourth of the month Monday in 2023 from 1-3PM (unless otherwise noted). Each month has a theme and discussions emphasize connections between literature and like experiences in our personal lives and understanding societal context at different times in history. Light refreshments are provided. RSVP not required, and participants do not need to be members of the association to attend. For questions, please contact Lori Parker at 828-421-4838.

2023 Schedule:

January 23: Fantasy book and making paper roses for Valentine’s Day

The Eye of the World By Robert Jordan. Also discuss Ken McCulloch’s synopsis of his unpublished third novel. RSVP by January 17 to get a copy of Ken’s synopsis and reserve craft supplies. 

February 27: Fantasy (cont.) and finger knitting

Wrap up The Eye of the World  (Wheel of Time). How does The first few TV episodes compare to the novel? and talk about your favorite book series. Please bring a yarn of your choice to participate in finger knitting.

March 27: Montana Author and more finger knitting

Under the Chinook Arch: Tales of a Montana Veterinarian By R. W. Gustafson. Bring your finger knitting project from last month to work on, or bring your favorite yarn to learn to start one.

April 24: Classics and spring wreath

Sense and Sensibility By Jane Austen. Join the discussion of this first published work by Jane Austen. Bring a wreath frame and some faux foliage to share with other readers.

May 22: Club Anniversary

The Jane Austen Book Club By Karen Joy Fowler. Bring your friends, a snack to share, and whatever craft project you are working on independently to the third anniversary of our book club. If you bring someone new or are someone new to our book club, you’ll be entered in for a prize!

Discussion Leader Biography

Lori Parker is the Vice President of the Montana association for the Blind (Bozeman Chapter), a Braille instructor, a virtual personal assistant, and a jewelry designer. Lori read 300+ books per year before becoming a mother; now she's down to around 100. She lives in Belgrade with her son, Samwise, Who loves to curl up with his mama and Reid.

Participants in this book club are responsible for getting their own copies of the books. Ask at the Public Services Desk if you need assistance!

Zoom is also available for those who can't attend in person. Zoom is also our back up plan for if the library discontinues in-person meetings; we will still have book discussions on zoom.
