Re-Creating and Experiencing the History of the Gallatin Valley Through Ferroequinology

Thursday, November 10, 2022 6:00pm - 7:30pm Belgrade Community Library iCal cal The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at MSU is partnering with the Belgrade Community Library to host a talk entitled “Re-Creating and Experiencing the History of the Gallatin Valley Through Ferroequinology” at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10 at the library. This event is free and open to the public. The presentation will be preceded by a social with refreshments at 5:30 p.m. Craig Ehlert, a former MSU professor and model railroad enthusiast, will discuss how the railway system has shaped the history of the Gallatin Valley. He will also discuss how this history can be recreated and experienced through the multifaceted hobby of model railroading. Throughout Montana's history, the railroad system had ties to every major industry, including early tourism in Yellowstone, mining, agriculture, coal extraction and logging. Trains have been integral in the operation and success of the various ways organizations have tapped into Montana's rich resources. Craig Ehlert is a former professor in MSU’s Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, where he taught for 19 years. He is a model railroad enthusiast and railroad historian, a true ferroequinologist! Seating is limited at Belgrade Community Library events, and advance registration is encouraged to ensure you get a seat. However, walk-ins are always welcome.
