Play: Angels in America, Part 1: Millennium Approaches
A grassroots team of Bozeman and Livingston theater artists present Angels in America for the first time in Montana.
Tony Kushner's epic, Pulitzer Prize-winning play, "Angels In America: Part 1, Millennium Approaches," presented at the Emerson Crawford Theater in Bozeman, MT, March 11, 12, 13 and 18, 19, 20, 2022.
PLEASE NOTE START TIMES: due to the 3.5 hour running time of the production, evening performances on Friday and Saturdays will begin at 7:00pm, and Sunday matinees will begin at 2:00pm.
We suggest audience members wear masks during the performance and in the Ballroom, unless eating or drinking.
NOTE: The play contains mature themes, adult language, and sexually graphic content. Admission for ages 16+ only.
Set in 1985, “Angels In America: Part 1, Millennium Approaches,” revolves around six New Yorkers whose lives intersect. At its core, it is the fantastical story of a gay man living with AIDS who is visited by an angel. The play explores a wide variety of themes, including Reagan era politics, the spreading AIDS epidemic, and a rapidly changing social and political climate. There is a distinct timeliness and relevance to a revival of the play as our nation grapples with a new, deadly communicable disease and the consequences of significant political upheaval.
The production is directed by Cara Wilder, and features Michael Beehler, Meriweather Campbell, Jenna Ciralli, Daniel Erickson, John Henry Haseltine, Peggy Jensen, Nnamdi Kanaga, Nadia Mell, Alex Miller, Aaron Murtagh, Mary Orr, Aaron Schuerr, Isabel Shaida, and Rabbi Ed Stafman.
Our performances at the Emerson Crawford Theater in Bozeman will mark the first-ever semi-professional production of “Angels In America” in Montana. We are creating not only an important theatrical production but also an Awareness Event in support of our LGBTQ friends and neighbors in all corners of the state; those who have lived in fear because of who they are and are more marginalized now than ever due to the recent strong shift in state politics.
Please enjoy pre-show and intermission cash bar drinks and snacks while chatting with our partnering nonprofits at informational tables in the Ballroom, adjacent to the theater!
