Sam Brinton, a speaker and advocate for LGBTQ youth, will present “Fostering LGBTQ+ STEM Student Success” on Feb. 26 in Inspiration Hall at Montana State University. The event is open to the public.

The lecture will run from 4:10 to 5 p.m. and is one of the events the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering Diversity and Inclusion Committee has organized this semester to help foster inclusive, equitable classrooms.

Brinton is the founder of the 50 Bill 50 States campaign at The Trevor Project, which advocates ending the practice of conversion therapy and has led efforts to submit legislation and promote public education toward that end. Brinton co-chaired the National Center for Lesbian Rights’ #BornPerfect Advisory Committee on conversion therapy and has spoken before Congress and the United Nations and testified on legislation to protect LGBTQ youth across the country. 

The talk is sponsored by Out in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics at MSU, a student chapter of the national oSTEM organization. Its mission is to help LGBTQ students succeed personally, academically and professionally.
