Period Performance Workshop with Carrie Krause

Are you curious what information is available about period performance? Do you love history, music, and the stories it has to tell? The workshop will explore:
  • Original sources (manuscript scores and first editions, iconography, writing) and their clues for today’s performers
  • Varied articulation
  • Rhetorical, communicative sound
  • Ornamentation and improvisation
  • Open, centered, relaxed physical approach to instrument
 
Working closely with Baroque Music Montana faculty, participants will use these elements to inspire fresh, invigorated, and uniquely personal performances! The workshop this year includes a special faculty performance on Saturday, August 25th.
 
Workshop Registration
Eligibility:  Students, amateur, and professional players of string, wind, and keyboard instruments, and guitar or lute with at least four years playing experience and adequate reading skills.  Ages 14 and older. *Limited to 50 participants* Fees: Full Workshop, $175 total; *Private Lessons available upon request, $30 per 30 minutes. Registration Deadline: May 31, 2018, register online by visiting bozemansymphony.org.
Faculty: The I-90 Collective
Concertmaster of the Bozeman Symphony, Carrie has performed as soloist from the Leipzig Bach Festival to the Boston Early Music Festival, and as a member of Apollo’s Fire at the BBC Proms.
 
Adriane Post, Violin
Founding member of the acclaimed Diderot String Quartet, specializing in early romantic repertoire, and ensemble in residence at Holy Trinity in New York City and the National Cathedral in D.C. Adriane is described by Early Music Magazine as one of North America's "brightest and best."
 
Paul Dwyer, cello
Assistant principal cellist of the Chicago Lyric Opera and the Handel & Haydn Society, Paul has a varied resume from heavy metal cello quartets to Fulbright scholar and Carnegie Hall Soloist.
 
John Lenti, lute and guitar 
Multi-year winner of the Early Music America/Naxos competition and backbone of leading early music ensembles to major opera companies, John is praised by Gramophone for his 'nuanced beauty and character."
 
Nate Helgeson, bassoon
Founder and performer with America's premier period instrument ensembles, Nate appears with Tafelmusik, American Bach Soloists, and as frequent featured soloist with Portland Baroque.
 
Benedict Williams, harpsichord
A chorister at King’s College Cambridge and a music scholar at Oundle School, Benedict graduated from the University of York with a First Class Degree holds a Masters Degree in Harpsichord from the Royal Academy of Music.
