Editing Our Evolution: A public forum on gene editing

"Editing Our Evolution" is an opportunity for the public to interact with MSU researchers as they learn more about and discuss new technologies and scenarios in gene editing. As gene editing techniques become more refined, the possibility of editing the human genome is moving from science fiction to reality. What should we do with this power? Are you excited about the possibilities? Concerned about unknown consequences? Wondering who will decide how we as a society can maximize benefits from these scientific advances while minimizing the harm that might come from them? These and many other questions will be tackled as Montana State University hosts this public outreach event as part of an educational series called Building with Biology. MSU Academic Technology and Outreach was selected as one of 28 organizations nationwide to host this Building with Biology forum as a special opportunity for scientists and the public to interact directly and to learn from each other. The activities and conversations encourage people to share ideas and opinions about how they want to see these new technologies developed and adopted. Scientists, too, have the chance to listen to those views, share their own ideas, and to consider ways public comments can affect their research. The Building with Biology project is funded by the National Science Foundation and led by the Museum of Science, Boston. ATO is an academic outreach department of MSU that offers continuing education, lifelong learning and outreach programs for the public. https://www.montana.edu/calendar/events/26903
