Native Voices Exhibition Public Reception

The Montana State University Library has been selected to host the traveling exhibition Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness. It will be on display from March 28 to May 4 in the Library Commons. A public reception featuring Native themed foods will take place on April 12.

Native Voices explores the interconnectedness of wellness, illness and cultural life for Native Americans, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians. Stories drawn from both the past and present examine how health for Native People is tied to community, the land and spirit. Through interviews, Native People describe the impact of epidemics, federal legislation, the loss of land, and the inhibition of culture on the health of Native individuals and communities today.

The exhibit will be on display in the Library Commons and features displays focusing on five themes--individual, community, nature, tradition and healing.  Several iPads will accompany Native Voices and will provide an enhanced visitor experience through videos, images and personal stories.
