This 1979 musical road comedy is the first theatrical film featuring the Muppets. Produced by Jim Henson, the screenplay was conceived by writers of The Muppet Show, Jerry Juhl and Jack Burns. The film depicts the adventure of Kermit the Frog as he embarks on a cross-country trip to Hollywood. Upon its release, The Muppet Movie received high praise and garnered two Academy Award nominations for Best Musical Score and Best Song “The Rainbow Connection”. In 2009, the film was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. 95 minutes. Rated G.
