Strategies for a Healthier Community
You put a helmet on your child, taught them how to wash their hands, visited a doctor for well-child check-ups and made sure to get vaccinations; you even talk about making healthy choices. What else can you do? Starting with the first trip to the convenience store, grocery store, or other retail outlets, the tobacco industry has been targeting your child. Exposure to tobacco marketing can undermine your efforts and cause youth to start tobacco use - the leading cause of (preventable) death and disease in Gallatin County. In this Parent University session, we will examine the role of the retail environment on Public Health. Jen MacFarlane from the Gallatin City-County Health Department will present why point of sale marketing matters in our community, find out what you can do to limit corporate influence on health, and leave with hands-on tools you can use to educate your child(ren). Class is free of charge. For more information and to register, go to: http://www.bsd7.org/students_parents/parent_university
