"No Where To Go But Up"
Enter a world where adults live hands off with uncomplicated lives above in towers while street hardened children live in clans and fight on the streets below to survive until they reach the age to elevate, eagerly leaving their hardscrabble existence far behind. This is the setting for “Nowhere To Go But Up,” an original musical written and directed by KYT artistic director Stacy Hostetter. Celie, a modern teenager tired of being told what to do, chores, and babysitting younger siblings, longs for freedom and to be out on her own, but reconsiders after, through an accident, she finds herself waking up surrounded by fearsome Beat clan members in a junkyard world. Being adopted into the group, she soon starts questioning the status quo, until she draws the Beat into her ideas that things can be different if they want them to be. Hot tempers, rival clan groups, criminal Uppins (grown-ups), and a Street Squad working to clean up the streets, fill out the cast of characters in this show that empowers each, even children, to do their part in changing things for the good.
Cost: $12 adults/$10 students
