Bozeman Doc Series "Kedi"
On Sunday, December 18th, at 7pm at the Emerson Center, The Bozeman Doc Series presents the Montana premiere of the critically acclaimed new documentary, Kedi.
For thousands of years, street cats have played a unique role in the life of the city of Istanbul. Allowed to roam freely, and embraced as an essential part of the city’s identity, these animals live between two worlds, neither wild nor tame – and they bring joy and purpose to those people they choose to adopt. In Istanbul, cats are the mirrors to the people, allowing them to reflect on their lives in ways nothing else could.
Combining gorgeous cinematography with surprising insight, Kedi is a fascinating look at life in one of the world’s ancient cities and the enduring bond between man and animal.
Since the film’s world premiere earlier this year in Istanbul, Kedi has won over audiences at prestigious festivals around the world and received widespread critical acclaim.
“A magical and remarkable documentary about the free-roaming feline population of Istanbul. …splendidly graceful…a profoundly affecting meditation, at once dreamy and precise, on a force of nature surviving and thriving in an industrialized world.” Variety
“It’s very difficult not to get caught up in the visual beauty and photography of Kedi. [Director, Ceyda] Torun’s attention to detail and the sweeping aerial shots of the Bosphorus, Istanbul’s sumptuous mosques and skyline, are so hypnotic that there will be something here even for non-cat lovers. Despite, this it remains an unapologetic ode to the mystical, four legged creatures, who occupy both an important place in Islamic folklore and the social fabric of Istanbul…The film is more than just a simplistic celebration of the animal’s cuteness, it deftly weaves together the subtle ways cats touch upon people’s lives, philosophically and spiritually.” 4:3 Film
“…a delightful cinematic experience…It’s been a while since a documentary has delivered as much pure, instant joy as Kedi does.” Seattle Met
