Pecha Kucha 21
Pecha Kucha (peh-chak-cha) offers anyone with a passion or a vision--designers, artists, inventors, architects, adventurers, entrepreneurs—an opportunity to share their ideas with the community during a fast-paced, friendly social get-together. There's just one catch—presenters have only 20 slides x 20 seconds each, a total of 6 minutes, 40 seconds! There is so much to experience at the 21st PK event!
Kristi Govertsen, a late-blooming science and math nerd, describes her “ugly adventure in learning to kiss” and the epiphany it sparked! The long-tongued, scaly pangolin is probably capable of a few ugly kisses of its own.
Russ Chapman will outline the grave challenges facing this distinctive-looking creature.
Louise Johns, a freelance photographer and National Geographic Young Explorer, will present “Our Wild Backyard: The Changing Gallatin Range,” and Tyson Krinke will show us some of the iconic photographs that have changed him and had most impact on the world.
Belgrade High School senior Madeline Esper draws inspiration from art—particularly from Cody, WY-born artist Jackson Pollock. She had the opportunity to see much of his work in New York City last summer and describes why he inspires her so much.
Sam Engblom, who was born in Bozeman, but spent much of his youth in Turkey, describes the unique challenges and joys of a person split between two cultures.
Julia Yanker and Lorca Smetana, will talk about the internal struggle with their own thoughts and perspectives on the world. Julia’s presentation, “So I have this roommate…” will focus on the dialogue with her “inner voice” and Lorca will tell us how she discovered the importance of resilience in part through some dramatic events in her early life.
Others include local architect and PK fan Rob Pertzborn, who takes us inside his struggle to create the perfect PK presentation (many examples provided); Jo Hadley, who came up with a new business that took her in unexpected directions after she discovered her son loved the color pink; and Campbell Gerrish, who found real community in the gym. Local morning television anchor, Broad Comedy star, and snowboard instructor Missy O’Malley will emcee the event.
All presentations will be featured both nights. The November event is sponsored by Treeline Coffee Roasters. Pecha Kucha (sounds like chit-chat in Japanese) was created 12 years ago by a Tokyo architectural firm. Events are now held around the world in more than 800 cities.
