Altitude Gallery will be showcasing a new artist at the September Art Walk. Bozeman painter Stacy Herries will be showing a series of lush encaustic landscapes. Stacey utilizes a combination of wax and oil paint – both transparent and opaque – to create a luminescent sense of depth and texture. Layer by layer she adds pattern, pigment and markings to softly scented beeswax to create a richly nuanced vision of the wild spaces in the region that this 5th generation Montanan loves most. Many of the pieces shown are inspired by our precious remaining open spaces, snapshots of land under conservation easement with the Gallatin Valley Land Trust. While very much a Western artist, she strives to depict the Western landscape in unexpected and appealing ways, using an unusual medium. Stacey will be doing a live demonstration of encaustic technique during the Art Walk.
