Please join us in learning how to make a Chronicle Quilt, do a little treadling, and learn some of Bozeman history as passed down by Connie Onstad and Jane Quinn. Stop by any time. If you can, please bring your sewing machine and some fabric scraps to add to the Chronicle Quilt. A special day is planned at the Gallatin History Museum as a way to welcome our summer visitor and former associate director, Ann Butterfield. During her tenure at GHS Ann was actively involved in quilt research. Enjoying a day at the Museum will be a perfect way to reintroduce a quilting technique called the Chronicle Quilt. What is a Chronicle Quilt, you say? During the early 1990’s community quilter Jane Quinn was intrigued by a conversation with Alta Onstad, the pastor’s wife at Hope Lutheran Church during the WWII years. Quinn learned and then hosted a Chronicle Quilt Day, July 29. 1994. Mrs. Onstad told stories of 50 years earlier. She filled our imagination with people and a time we had never known—the WWII era in Bozeman. Using treadle and hand crank sewing machines quilts were stitched for two young boys who “were down their luck” due to a house fire. Join us as we repeat what was done that day years ago-- piecing using pages of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. Come. Bring your summer guests. What better way to pass along the heritage of our Gallatin Valley? Once again we will learn the richness of keeping the past alive in our community
