The film stars Tom Cruise as Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a young naval aviator sent to train in San Diego after demonstrating incredible skill, using controversial means, to assist a wingman in distress. One day prior to the commencement of flying school, Maverick meets civilian Top Gun trainer, and astrophysicist, Charlie Blackwood. With his reckless style, and desire to impress the attractive instructor, Maverick ruffles the feathers (or wings) of his peers as he strives to become the best pilot.
