Bookmobile Campaign

A bookmobile is a literary moveable feast, so what better way to kick-off the campaign to raise money for the Bozeman Public Library’s bookmobile than by celebrating Ernest Hemingway’s “A Moveable Feast.” The memoir is the theme for an evening at Montana Ale Works on Wednesday, February 25.

Guests can feast on specially prepared small plate pairings with a Caribbean theme by Montana Ale Works chef and beer from local breweries Outlaw Brewing and Bozeman Brewing Company for either round one at 5:30 – 7pm or round two at 7:30 – 9pm, all for $40. Bozeman Spirits Distillery will concoct a specialty cocktail for a suggested donation of $10. Due to the generosity of these local businesses, all sales go directly to the bookmobile fund.

On hand will be special visiting author Edward Hemingway (Ernest’s grandson), Valerie Hemingway (Ernest’s private secretary and daughter-in-law), and Patrick Hemingway (Ernest’s son). They will be there to sign books and to chat with about recent writings and their support of this amazing community Library. This is a historic event of three generations of Hemingways!

“In those days, there was no money to buy books,” wrote Hemingway in “A Moveable Feast,” which recounts his years as a young apprentice writer and expatriate in Paris in the 1920s. The Bozeman community and surrounding areas are fortunate to have a first-class public library to supply books, but not everyone can make it downtown as often as they’d like. Enter the bookmobile, bringing books and services to people where they are – a literal moveable feast of material.

Eddie is the author/illustrator of several successful children’s books and illustrator of “Of All the Gin Joints: Stumbling through Hollywood History” and “Hemingway & Bailey’s Bartending Guide to Great American Writers” both written by Mark Bailey. Valerie authored “Running with the Bulls: My Years with the Hemingways,” and Patrick has been working with nephew Sean Hemingway on re-releasing his father’s books as Library Editions, writing the preface. These books have an introduction by Sean, as well as newly researched material. All of the books will be available for purchase by Country Bookshelf, with a portion of the sales benefitting the bookmobile fund. Signed copies will surely make collector’s editions.

Special thanks go to Montana Ale Works, a proud Community Partner, for making this event – and a new bookmobile – possible! For tickets and information call 406.582.2425 or email programs@bozemanlibraryfoundation.org.  This event is 21 and over.
