Throughout the world, the poor often suffer most from heat waves, droughts and severe storms. Diana Liverman of the University of Arizona's Institute of the Environment will discuss the connections between poverty and climate, including potential impacts of a worldwide decrease in poverty, and how policy changes can have both negative and positive impacts on poor or otherwise marginalized populations. Liverman will also present ideas on how we can reduce the risks of climate change through controlling the growth of greenhouse gases while providing energy, jobs and food to the poor and how adaptation projects can address the needs of low income populations across the world. 

This talk is free and open to the public as part of the Montana Institute on Ecosystems' Distinguished Visiting Lecturer Series. Light refreshments served prior to the 7 p.m. talk.
