Artist Reception: Edd Enders
View "Movement. Montana." a new exhibit of unique and interpretive oil paintings depicting the fascinating, yet familiar, shape of native trees as seen through the eyes of Livingston artist Edd Enders. The show will be exhibited January 3 through February 28 in the Bozeman Public Library's Atrium Gallery. Join the Library Foundation for the Opening Artist Reception on Friday, January 10, 6:00-7:30 pm.
"Trees, primarily cottonwood trees, have always moved me and comprised a large element of my work," said Enders. "For me, the trees contain a figurative-humanistic quality and are very representative of the west, Montana and the Gallatin Valley. Like people, every one of them is different."
A fifth generation Montanan and Montana State University Fine Arts graduate, Enders expresses that "I feel a certain intimacy with the environment of the Northern Rockies and people's interaction with it. Living in isolated areas gave me ample time to ponder, observe and draw. I look for patterns, shapes, and relationships that bring an emotional response to me. I convey that response through color." Enders paintings bring out the inner character of the towering cottonwoods, or hearty enduring junipers, using luminous colors to create a seeming vibrancy emanating from their longtime fixed roots. In an article which appeared in Montana Quarterly, a collector of Ender's work states "He takes very familiar Montana views and renders them in a completely novel way."
