BFS Film Highlights Legacy and Remembrance

BFS is proud to present a special Memorial Day film event with the Bozeman premiere of And We Were Young, adapted from "Doughboy War: The American Expeditionary Force in World War I," by James H. Hallas. Three years and over 250,000 individual frames in the making, this stop-action animated oral history of American soldiers (‘Doughboys’) in France during the last months of the Great War is brought to life by Montana filmmaker Andy Smetanka. Brutal and beautiful, Smetanka's first feature film paints an unforgettable picture of the “war to end all wars,” narrated with the words of the men who survived. Andy Smetanka, whose past collaborators include Guy Maddin, Isabella Rossellini, the Decemberists and Pearl Jam, will join the BFS for this very special Evening of Remem-brance on the 100th Anniversary of US involvement in WWI. The public is invited to join Andy for a free animation demonstration from 6–7 pm at Wild Joe’s Coffee Spot. Soup and Doughboy rolls will be available for $5.00. American Legion Post 14 Color Guard will open the 7:30 pm film presentation. Not rated, the film runs 75 minutes.

Cost: $8.75 Gen. / $8.50 Students & Seniors (+ Fees)
