Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey and Morgan Cawdrey Opening Reception

Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey -

A colorist with a strong sense of design, Nancy’s work always evokes a response whether she is creating one of her signature western figure pieces, a breathtaking landscape, or a vibrant floral. Nancy has a passion for color, texture and pattern, and allows spontaneity and brilliance to come through in her paintings whether she’s working with silk, watercolor, or oil. Nancy is the daughter of a retired career officer which means she traveled extensively and was exposed to exotic cultures throughout her childhood. In whatever country her father was stationed, Nancy immersed herself in the culture, and her affection for the arts later led her to study two years in Paris and another five years in Britain.

Morgan Cawdrey -

Morgan Cawdrey, raised in the relative wilderness of Thompson Falls, MT and later in the dramatic Flathead Valley, has been drawing and painting in the studio since he was able to hold a brush, studying the art of painting dye on silk and other media with his mother, Nancy Dunlop Cawdrey.  He began selling work at 14 after winning first place of his age division in the Montana State Jr. Duck Stamp contest several times, and has enjoyed the patronage of collectors from all over the United States since then.

Morgan graduated in 2009 from Dartmouth College with a degree in Chinese Language and Literature (Mandarin). He spent three terms in China, absorbing the culture, which brought a new perspective and reverence to his study of the ancient Chinese art of silk painting.  With his depictions of wide open spaces and fascinating wildlife, Morgan attempts an “East Meets West” effect- painting Western subject matter with French dyes on Chinese silk.  He has recently begun studying plein air oil painting as well.
