"A Little Night Music"

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks and Intermountain Opera Bozeman will bring Stephen Sondheim’s and Hugh Wheeler’s Tony Award Winning musical “A Little Night Music” to Montana State University’s Black Box Theater beginning Friday, Feb. 10.
 
Regular performances will be held Thursday through Saturdaynights at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. through Feb. 26. For the complete schedule, see http://boxoffice.printtixusa.com/intermountainopera/eventcalendar.
 
Based on the Ingmar Bergman film, “Smiles from a Summer Night,” and featuring the song, “Send in the Clowns,” the musical follows the romantic entanglements of several couples during a weekend in the country.
 
MSIP’s Kevin Asselin will direct the production with musical supervision by IOB’s Linda Curtis. The cast will feature Kristie Dale Sanders (Broadway credits include “Cabaret,” “Evita,” “Next Fall”) in the leading role of Desiree Armfeldt and New York-based Harry Bouvy (Henry Higgins in last year’s production of “My Fair Lady”) as her former suitor, Fredrik Egerman.
 
IOB favorite Sean Anderson stars as the puffed-up soldier, Count Carl Magnus. MSIP alums Rebecca Hurd, Benjamin Barker, Kristin Hammargren and Susan Miller return in supporting roles. Local favorites including Debbie Jamieson, Tasha Fain, Coco Douma, Frank Simpson, Reginald Mead, Valarie Andrews, Steven Harris-Weiel and Maya Dickerson will complete the cast.
 
Designers include Matthew McCarren (set), Claudia Boddy (costumes), Stacy Hostetter (props), Thomas Delgado (lighting) and Shari Watson (choreography). Music direction will be under the baton of Chicago-based conductor John Cockerill.
 
Due to expected high demand, Saturday matinees have been added at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 18 and 25.
 
A catered preview performance gala that is a fundraiser to help support future presentations will be held Wednesday, Feb. 8. The party starts at 6 p.m. with show time at 7:30 p.m. and post-performance dessert and a meet the artists’ reception after the show.
 
General admission tickets are $10 for students and $25 for adults, with limited $40 reserve seating. Gala tickets on Feb. 8are $75 ($25 tax-deductible) and include food and drink.
