Bozeman Symphonic Choir

After two straight years of sold-out performances in the gorgeous acoustical setting of Holy Rosary Church, we are delighted to once again present the Bozeman Symphonic Choir in a program of glorious and profound choral masterpieces. Featuring James Whitborn’s jazzy Son of God Mass, with soprano saxophone soloist and Bozeman’s own Ryan Matzinger, this lush program also includes works by Bruckner, Rutter, Lauridsen and more.

The 100 member, volunteer choir, has been preparing for this performance since early September with rehearsals weekly.  “I am so excited to mix two musical mediums that are rarely heard together - jazz saxophone and traditional cathedral-style choral singing, as part of the “O Magnum Mysterium” concert.

A person's first impression of each of these is that they are on the opposite ends of the musical spectrum, but, in James Whitbourn's Son of God Mass, they make an extremely complimentary mix when combined, each drawing on the chant-like, contemplative possibilities of both choral singing and solo jazz playing. The vocal color, depth and realized potential of the choir is at an all-time high this year, and I think that we are all inspired by the trajectory of the ensemble.” – Jon Harney, Choir Director.

In addition to soprano saxophone soloist Ryan Matzinger, the program will feature Julia Cory Slovarp, cello and Tim Bell, organ.
