Bozeman Doc Series: A New Kind of Wilderness
On Thursday, October 10th, at 7pm at the Emerson Center, the Bozeman Doc Series returns for its tenth season with the Montana premiere of the award-winning new documentary, A New Kind of Wilderness. On a picturesque farm in the Norwegian forest, the Payne family – British father Nik, Norwegian mother Maria and their four children – have thrived for years in isolation from the modern world, determined to maintain their sustainable-living independence in harmony with nature. But when tragedy strikes, the family faces a devastating loss, along with the daunting prospect of integrating themselves into contemporary society. Winner of Sundance's World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary, the film is a poignant encounter with a family coming to terms with a new reality. “Intimate...stirring...a reminder that you don’t need sensationalism to deliver something that’s honest and emotionally resonant.” The Hollywood Reporter "Aching emotional candor and continued visual beauty...It’s hard to say how interesting or idealized the film [director] Jacobsen first conceived would have wound up being; it’s unlikely to have been as affecting as this one, which probes gently but insistently into fragile family dynamics." Variety “Bittersweet…a gentle, intimate portrait...nature has a way of healing itself, so it is apt that this documentary chronicles that same cycle of renewal and growth.” Screen Daily Doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets are available at the door or before the show online at www.bozemandocseries.org, where you can also buy Season Passes and 7-film punch cards, learn more about the series, and view trailers for upcoming films. The series will continue every other Thursday through April, 2024.
