Felting Wool Workshop with Meghan Purcell

This special guest-artist workshop is designed around the creation of a felted art piece. After we touch on the history of wet-felting and the wool’s source, you will be guided through the techniques to turn fiber into felt. You will be provided with local and ethically sourced wool and will create your own felted piece to take home at the end. Finished pieces can be mounted as a wall piece or used as decorative art. In the wet felting process, water is applied to layers of sheep wool while repeated agitation and compression causes the fibers to hook together or weave together into a single piece of fabric. ABOUT THE ARTIST Meghan Purcell studied fine art at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design and Montana State University - Bozeman. She earned a BFA in Art Education at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee in 2011. Meghan’s work can be found in private collections and designer showrooms across the country, as well as in a myriad of group and solo exhibitions, and gallery representation regionally. She lives and creates in Livingston, Montana. Through the ancient technique of wool felting, Meghan Purcell explores ideas of genuine connection, sustainability, and the integrity of the human hand in an industrialized society. From sourcing wool locally, to assisting with sheep shearing and felting each piece entirely by hand, every step of the process is highly intentional.
