December Cover Artist: Jacob Raab

Saturday Dec. 1st, 2018

Jacob Raab is a freelance photographer and musician who has spent the last two-plus years living out of a Toyota Camry, driving back and forth across the USA and Canada in search of alpine playgrounds. He has been climbing for over a decade, and has first ascents on rock and ice in areas such as Yosemite Valley and Peru’s Cordillera Blanca. Jacob has established himself as a regular presence on the annual ice climbing festival circuit, traveling each winter to Bozeman, Portland (OR), Ouray (CO), Cody (WY), Munising (MI), and points in between to spread the stoke!

Originally a jazz trumpet player from the flatlands of Indiana, Jacob picked up a camera for a 2013 trip to Moab (UT) and has taken it up the mountains and on the trails ever since. He has had the pleasure of working (playing) with close friends, world-class athletes, and the amazing outdoor recreation community at large, shooting for notable outdoor organizations including the Mazamas, American Alpine Club, and CAMP USA. Jacob specializes in combining his improvisational sensibilities with his photography and alpine skill sets with the goal of capturing images in the frozen vertical world; camera in hand, he is just as comfortable dangling from a rope on the side of a frozen waterfall as he is on terra firma.

Look for Jacob behind the scenes (and behind the lens) at this year’s Bozeman Ice Fest!
