Bozeman Team Prepares for National Flugtag Competition

Red Bull Flugtag, the world's wildest homemade, human-powered flying craft competition, announces the return to Portland’s McCall Waterfront Park on August 1, 2015. The highly competitive application phase kicks off today and ends May 12, with only the first 500 applications being considered.

On the day of the competition, each team of five will take their contraptions on a great flying leap off a 28-foot-high flight deck into the water below as they try to break the world record, currently standing at 258 feet (78.64 meters). As this is no ordinary flying competition, teams will not only be judged on flight distance, but also their creativity and showmanship.

Bozeman will be represented by Team Montucky consisting of 5 Montana State students, Ryan Becker, Nate Peterson, Matt Geulin, Nils Wahlstrom and Riley Daily.

Team Montucky's goal for Flugtag is to be the team that people remember. Group organizer Ryan Becker says "We have tried to incorporate a Montana theme throughout the project and it's really worked out to be pretty cool. That being said, we are shooting for the most votes and the people choice award. We really would like to please the crowd and show everyone a great time."

This is Team Montucky's first time competing in a Red bull competition, but they compete in the Big Sky pond skim for several years, and are no stranger to crowds.

The team is currently leading in online votes, every vote counts, you can vote here:
