Hailing from the bohemian college town of Athens, Georgia, Futurebirds play laid-back country-rock with an atmospheric, psychedelic twist. The music is a patchwork amalgam of influences, including: twangy Southern rock (they've opened for the Drive-By Truckers), reverb-soaked psychedelia reminiscent of early My Morning Jacket or fellow Athens residents Phosphorescent, and soaring guitar solos à la Neil Young and Crazy Horse. The group began turning heads with the release of a self-titled EP, whose backwoods harmonies and pedal steel riffs helped earn them a contract with Autumn Tone Records. With the label’s help, Futurebirds booked time at Chase Park Transduction -- one of Athens’ most renowned studios and recorded Hampton’s Lullaby, released in August 2010. The group’s latest release is Hotel Parties. Special guest opening band: Dammit Lauren and the Well.
