Fire on the Page: Every Picture Tells a Story Workshop

A full-day writers workshop for educators hosted by the Yellowstone Writing Project is now open for registration.

“Fire on the Page: Every Picture Tells a Story,” will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the Museum of the Rockies. YWP teacher consultants are partnering with staff members from Museum of the Rockies, the Montana State University Library and conference participants to explore how images inspire writing.

Some of the sessions available include using contemporary photography to inspire writing across major text types in K-12 classrooms; exploring the new Museum of the Rockies exhibit “Childhood Classics: 100 Years of Children’s Book Illustration;” accessing archived images with on-site and digital sources offered by the museum and MSU’s collection of writings from renowned Montana writer Ivan Doig; and experiencing storytelling through silent film viewing and creation in conjunction with the International Youth Silent Film Festival.

Teachers of all disciplines and grade levels are invited, and teams of teachers are encouraged to participate. Principals and curriculum leaders will also benefit from the workshop.

Registration is $100 through Jan. 23 and $120 afterward. The fee includes the workshop, coffee, lunch and Office of Public Instruction renewal units. Register via MSU Academic Technology and Outreach at ato.montana.edu/pdcourses under “Fire on the Page.” For more information, contact YWP at yellowstonewp@gmail.com.

Cost: $120/person
