The Bozeman Makerspace will present Made in the Valley, a panel of four speakers involved in making things in the Gallatin Valley area to discuss a variety of topics related to the value of thinking about how the objects we use are made. Thinking about how things are made is extremely important, whether in the context of global trade, educating our next generation of scientists and engineers, creating expressive art objects, or just knowing how to change your own oil. Made in the Valley will investigate and celebrate these issues with a particular emphasis on how they are relevant to the Gallatin area. Made in the Valley will take place at the Bozeman Public Library’s large community room​ on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.​ This event will be free and open to the public. The speakers will be: Dana Gleason, Co-founder of Mystery Ranch Backpacks,​ manufacturers of highly-regarded backpacks for outdoor recreation, wildland firefighting, military operations, and hunting. Eleanor Barker, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of Bozeman​ and its program STEAMlab, which provides hands-on experiences to explore technology for kids. Justin Hogan, a Staff Mechanic at the Bozeman Bike Kitchen,​ a cooperative cycling center, Justin is also an Electrical Engineer who has been involved in projects ranging from spaceflight payloads to electricity-generating bike hubs. Matt Hertel, Co-founder of PocketNC,​ a company that manufactures advanced machinery for small-scale CNC milling for entrepreneurs and hobbyists; The project was originally funded by the most successful Kickstarter campaign in Montana history.
