High Plains BookFest and Book Awards

The Billings Cultural Partners, Writer’s Voice, and the Billings Public Library will host the annual High Plains BookFest and Book Awards October 24th through October 26th in downtown Billings. The theme for the 2014 events is “Border Crossings,” intended to celebrate the participation of the three Canadian provinces included in the High Plains literary region: Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.
 
Melanie Rae Thon, Julianne Couch and Sheryl Noethe are keynote BookFest speakers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening, October 24th at the Yellowstone Art Museum in the 2nd floor gallery. Tickets are available at the door.
 
On Saturday, October 25th, High Plains Book Award finalists from across the United States and Canada will read from their books throughout the day at the Yellowstone Art Museum and the Billings Public Library. The readings are free and open to the public.
 
The High Plains Book Award Banquet will take place on Saturday, October 25th, at 6 p.m. at the Yellowstone Art Museum. Finalist writers will be recognized and awards will be presented to winning authors in ten categories. To purchase individual tickets or tables for the banquet, please call 406-697-0225. Canadian writer Jacqueline Guest will be the featured speaker at the Saturday evening banquet. Guest is a prolific Young Adult writer, an energetic advocate for teens and a past finalist for the High Plains Book Awards.
 
A no-host presentation featuring Montana poets will take place at McCormick Café on Sunday, October 26th at 10 a.m.
 
The High Plains Book Awards were established in 2006 to recognize regional authors and/or literary works which examine and reflect life on the High Plains states of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and Kansas, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.
