BOZEMAN – Montana State University will offer several graduate-level online courses in sport science this fall. Each course offers three graduate credits and is ideal for coaches, personal trainers, athletic directors, psychology professionals, dieticians, and others in healthcare or exercise science. Sport Physiology and Sport Psychology are approved courses for the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) certification.

Sport Physiology (HHD 550) examines the human body’s response to sport training and performance, including the muscular, neuromuscular, cardio-respiratory and endocrine systems, plus athletic training and sports conditioning.

Sport Nutrition (HHD 551) covers popular ergogenic aids, nutritional recommendations for performance, fluid and electrolyte needs, and more.

Sport Psychology (HHD 552) covers behavioral principles; anxiety, arousal, and intervention; motivation, leadership, cohesion, and audience effects; aggression and violence in sport; coaching psychology and the personality and psychological assessment techniques used in sport.

All three courses are offered completely online, and students do not need to be enrolled in an MSU degree program to participate. The eight-week courses begin Aug. 29 and will run through Oct. 21. Enrollment is limited and early registration is encouraged.

The instructor is Michael Meyers of MSU’s Department of Health and Human Development.
